Title: First Time Aquarium
Post by: FreshWaterTank on December 28, 2013, 05:22:27 PM
Looking to setup my first FW tank somewhere around 29 gallons. My home is heated with infloor radiant heat and the humidity levels are general fairly low between 38-48%, will a tank of this size increase the overall humidity in the home. We live in a one level bungalow and sometimes run the HRV to bring in fresh air during the winter.

I can't see a 29 g aquarium being much of a humidity factor in a home - especially if you have a top on it. Even if it was open, it should be fairly negligible. If you really wanted to measure it, you could measure the humidity pre and post installation using a hygrometer.

One of the factors as well would be the size of the room and ventilation.
Just my two-cents.

Let us know what you're keeping and perhaps post a pic or two!
All the best!

Thanks folks, just curious. Have quite made my mind up on a kit or buy each piece and build a custom type tank.

Nope.  I have a hygrometer over top my 90 gallon, with no lid, and there is no difference.

I agree with the others, no issue with a 29 gallon.

I had a 220 g with a sump running in my house and yes, there was some elevated humidity. But after I made a lid for the tank, the problem went away.

I have a 29g in our dinning room and while i do loose water to evaporation, my house is still dryer then I'd like. The only issues I ran into in the old apartment was spillage on the floor that destroyed the parkay flooring.

Meh, didn't like the rental place or management anyways!  :P
