Hey guys,
I'm looking for honest feedback on the Zoo Med nano 10 canister filter and the Tidal range of HOB from seachem.
Im looking into possibly buying both of these. Does anyone have experience with using either of these products?
Thanks,
Matt
I have been using the Tidal 55 on my (still quite new) 40 gal Congo river setup.
I have no complaints about the filter and are actually pretty satisfied with the purchase. Filter is very silent, self-priming works like a charm (pump is actually in the portion of the filter that's IN the tank, so no worries whatsoever) and the media basket is very customizable (added some purigen to the standard sponge+matrix).
Also the flow is adjustable and I turn it down when feeding to prevent too much food being sucked into the filter. Surface skimming seems to work just fine and keeps protein film to build up on the surface. I would buy it again for this size of tank
thanks for the feedback, I'm mainly interested in self priming part of it as a back up just in case. I have a 40 gallon and was looking at the Tidal 110. May be over filtration though! haha
Do you know how the size compares in the media basket to an aquaclear?
Thanks
I've also recently tried my first Tidal, i went for the 75 model. I first tried it on a SW quarantine and it is now the main filter in my FW planted tank.
I had previous experience with Aquaclears and aqueon hob.
I'd say the aquaclear can hold a bit more media but I'd think its a negligible amount. Overall the new seachem filters took over the aquaclears place as my favorite hob filters.
What I personally dislike of the Tidal is how how it takes up considerably more room in your tank in comparison to the aquaclear, but for all its advantages I'd say its worth the extra tank space it takes up (to me). The tidal is quieter, the adjustment works better, has surface skimming, looks better (imo), etc The self priming has yet to fail me too.
I guess that is the payoff for having a self priming filter. Just another thing to plan for real estate in the tank, just like adding a sponge filter or internal filter I guess.
I have a 70 aquaclear on at the moment and would want to transfer most if not all of my media into a tidal so I don't mess with the water parameters too much. So knowing they are if similar size is very useful.
Yeah you'll be able to re use most if not all your bio media. The chambers have considerably different shapes though so I chose to go with the sponge made for the tidal but that can easily be cut and worked with from any sponge.
I would def pull the trigger on the tidal if I was you, I've been a happy customer and it'll be my go to Hob for now.

Why are you thinking of replacing your AC70?
I just like the idea of having something that can start back up if a power cut happens. Always good to try something new in the hobby also :)
I'm basically inspired by self preparing some portion of it as a back up to be safe. I have a 40 gallon and was taking a gander at the Tidal 110. Maybe over filtration, however!
