Title: Cloudy water with slight green tint & water flow
Post by: Doc on November 22, 2019, 06:14:53 PM
Hi Everyone!

So I have a 65 gal tank with only 6 small african cichlids and the tank is fully cycled, water measures are 100% spot on, water changes are complete and regular, cleanliness maintenance is perfect, not in direct sunlight, 3-4 hrs/day light exposure (day) 1.5-2 hrs (night), no organic plant matter in the tank.  Feeding has been reduced to every other day and there is zero waste food in the tank.  Even the guys at Big Al's are a little stumped as to why I have slightly cloudy water with a green tint.  The best idea was that there may be a dead zone for the water flow and that spot could be the breeding zone for algae and that I should buy a water pump.  My Eheim pro 600 moves the water fantastically so before I go spending another $100 does anyone have any suggestions as to what may be causing this or solutions?

Tank set up is below...

Thanks,
Doc

I have no idea, and I love your diagram, but if you want to circulate water more you're welcome to borrow a backup hydor koralia I have before buying to at least find out if its what you need.

That would be fantastic!  I really appreciate it.  Where and when could I get it from you?  I live in Barrhaven.

How long has the tank been set up? If it's new it likely bacterial bloom. If your cycled then the issues you are having are going to clear up. Are your fish fine?

The tank has been set up for a few months and is fully cycled. The problem is not a bacterial bloom but rather a peculiar algae bloom without evident root cause.  Over the past few days it has proceeded to become more visible that it is an algae bloom for some unknown reason.  The fish seem to be fine and actually thriving!    I hate not having answers!!!!!!!!!  F*@&^%&%**^*^$!!!!!!!

my guess is that it is something in your eheim. could have sucked up something that is rotting inside and causing the bloom. i would do  a filter maintenance and then leave light off for a couple of days.
good thing is that green water is algae bloom and is great for fry rearing and fish health in general. my pond is green all summer and the fish come in healthier and brighter than when they went out.
hope this helps
cheers

I still maintain that it is a new tank issue. I would leave it. I know it's unsightly but doing too many changes all at once will cause more harm then good. The fish are heathy and eating so your good. Cichlids are tough little guys.
