Any thoughts on the subject ?
I always let my water site for at least 24 hour before adding to my tanks.
In the past, we were told that it allow enough time for the Chlorine to evaporate from the water in an open lid container.
I think now that most citie's who gets their water from the Ottawa river now use MonoChloramine instead of Chlorine for treating our drinking water.
I was recently told that what I'm doing is old school and it doesn't work anymore and That I should treat my water and us it right away. Who Should I believe ?
I use a 55 gallon tub that I fill up before using a Mag pump to transfer the water in to my tanks. While the water is filling up the tub, I adjust the faucets so that the temp is close to what they should be in the tank. After the tub is filled, I treat with water conditioner (Prime or Safe) and use a Koralia pump to circulate the water until the water becomes clear, not even five minutes and then I pump the water into my tanks. I've been doing this for years now and never had any issues except for the tub overfilling because I wasn't watching it. :-[
My three tank are spread on two floor so I have to use three 5 gal pale.
In the past with my previous tank, I have always conditioned my aquarium water change
But since then I've added to my house a water softener system with active carbon only to remove the ever present chlorine taste. Because of that I figured I don't need water conditioner but I still let it site 24 hour before using it as an additional precaution and to let the water reach room temperature. I'm surprise to ear that you use mix of cold and warm water.
I was on the impression that you were not supposed to use water that came from an hot water tank. I'm glad to ear that you can. I'm still debating if I have to go back to water conditioner.
Chloramine does not evaporate like chlorine does.
I did water changes today on 8 tanks.
I use the Python water change system for my tanks.
Set the temperature at the kitchen tap, added Seachem Prime to each tank and immediately started filling the tanks.
Thanks for the tip
Look like I will start conditioning my water again 😃
