Today I read that the only suitable bacterial supplement is tetra safe start because it contains aquatic bacteria, whereas all other companies use land based bacteria that eventually drowns which is why it says to add weekly. Is this true?
I like Tetra Safe start. It’s the only company that gives a money back guarantee.
That being said, I don’t believe that. From what I understand, most of these bacteria are from sewage plants. Dr Tim’s claims that he cultivates his from established aquariums.
That being said, my most stable tank was a fishless cycled started off with Cycle by Nutra fin. It’s been going since April and I never add BB. From what I can tell, as long as you take care of the tank properly, the BB should be fine
Do people generally add those additives after the tank has been cycled? I have never heard of that.
With the mystery of what is bothering my jack dempsey, I was very rough with cleaning out the filters and tubes and gravel etc to make sure. So as a just in case, I picked up a bottle. Because of reading this factoid, I went to petsmart to grab a bottle of this.
The bottles all recommended adding more of it when you do water changes.
I personally feel, once the tank is established, the BB should be fine, as long as you don't make any massive changes to the tank...
A big filter cleaning would count as a massive change.
I'd recommend Prodibio BioDigest vials, having had recent success with 2 vials in a 6 gallon.
Seachem Stability used to be my go-to as its more concentrated than some others.
And MicrobeLift have some good biological products for the pond.
BacterAE works well for shrimp tanks too.
