Title: Lubricating eheim canister o-ring
Post by: Black_Rose on May 19, 2020, 03:50:11 PM
My eheim 2234 canister filter seems to have started sucking in air somewhere, and the output quick disconnect valve is a bit wet so I think I need to replace that.

Anyway, the canister has been running for about 18 months.
I've never lubed the o-ring in that time, but have had to take it apart three times in the last month for cleaning and noise investigation.

I'm getting occasional air sounds coming from the canister and wonder if lubing the o-ring will fix it.

The manual says to use vaseline to lube the o-ring.
I always assumed petroleum jelly was bad for o-ring.

Is there a better option?

I use Moen silicone lubricant.

Moen stuff is good. Any lube made for plumbing is potable.

I agree, this Moen stuff is safer than other silicone. Note that the price of this is cheaper at Home Hardware at Preston

I have heard vaseline can deteriorate the rubber.
