We took the kids to Dennys Saturday evening, and my son practically ate his dinner in front of the SW display. I looked at it too, and was more than a little concerned with the blue tang they have. Has anyone seen it? It looks like it had its skull fractured at some point (it's head is crooked and slightly rotared at the eye sockets). And looked like it had a bit of trouble swimming straight. First time I've been in there in almost 2 years, and I don't remember the tang sporting that type of injury. I don't know how old / recent the injury may have been; our server didn't know, realize they have someone that comes in to look after the tank for them.
I just thought I would comment.
It may have been a rescue, or just a general injury thatu can't do anything about. I know the guy who maintains the Denny's tanks.
Although I haven't seen the Tang, and for whatever reason it may be in the tank, I can't imagine it's good for business to have this injured or deformed fish on public display or the subject of on-line discussion/speculation.
I will ask said person about it next time I see him.
I've been there a number of times, and I always stop by to check on the fish in the tank. I've noticed this blue tang too, with the busted-up face.
I'd have to say the state of the fish in that tank are pretty sad in general.. its not a tank I'd want to be showing off in a restaurant. More than once I've been in there to see the large trigger in there laying on his side, really dull with one eye bulging out of its head, ready to pop.
Wasn't there a case at a Denny's where one of the tanks busted open and an employee attempted to grab one of the puffers with their bare hands and was stung? Not sure if this is an urban legend or not - but I seem to remember hearing something about it not too long ago.
Can't say I ever heard that.

I agree it shouldn't be the subject of an online discussion / speculation, but I have to say that I was concerned when I saw it. And if it was some sort of rescue, I applaud whomever took it in. By the same token, I also have to agree that I don't know if I'd want to publically display it as a focal point to business patrons, if that makes sense...
jgolden, I think you may have misunderstood my remarks....I'm sure not suggesting we don't discuss it. In fact I would personally encourage it - public critisism is the risk Denny's took by having sickly fish on display
I used to go to Joey's only and admire the SW tank. That was before I got mine up and running. Now I wonder how much they are paying these guys to maintain it because in most cases, I could see neglect for sure. PS Nelson, I've noticed your posts now and I see that there are a few new additions to your sig (never ends does it with SW?)
I haven't seen the one at Denny's lately but always thought it was funny to see the triggers teeth sticking out of the cave.
Speaking of Joeys, in Cornwall the tank is African.

I'm not positive, but I think the owner of Joey's only does his own tanks.
i love the trigger there, its a beauty!
i thought the guy who maintains those Dennys tanks also work pt at BA Innes...no!
i am going to add many new things this wknd........bhahahaha!
p.s once i have wife's permission!
