Any suggestions as to what plants can tolerate hard, acidic water (7.5-8 ph)?
I've managed to keep a couple going... I have a large amazon sword, some java moss and another funky plant that I got from someone here that my pleco wont eat - much to my satisfaction - can't remember what it's called though. Oh and duckweed - which was out of control in my oscar tank until I dumped in about 10 mystery snails... now it's a little more under control.... meaning I'm not tossing the stuff weekly.
Anyway... so anyone have any plants that could suggest that are fairly/very hardy? I'd like to set up a heavily planted 10-20 gallon tank.
Anubias is very hardy and fish don't touch it.
First off... a pH of 7.5 to 8 is not acid. It's alkaline.
The big thing is the lighting over your tank. Your first considerations should always be light requirements, water chemistry comes second.
If you are setting up a new planted tank, don't go with a 10 gallon. You won't be able to grow anything more than low or medium low light plants well without building a custom lighting fixture
