Title: Microscopes
Post by: tuvok on March 26, 2006, 10:51:39 PM
How many of you guys own a microscope and use it to further your goals as an aquarist? Also, how often do you use it? And for what purposes? Just curious.

I also wish I had a microscope.. I was wanting to start doing my own fecal exams for my lizards and snake to check them for parasites.

I have a good 4x Magnifying glass.

you can buy starter microscopes at hometrainingtools.com; ive bought things from them before and just a heads up you will have to pay duty if you buy from them.

I wish I had a microscope.

I have been interested in the Biology of things for a long time, and would use it for pretty much everything and anything.
I just don't know what to buy, and how much to spend to get what I am looking for, without getting something useless or way ahead of me.
Any suggestions ???

mine used to have an adaptor for slide shows and an adaptor for the camera....loved it soooo much!!!

the one that I would really like to have is about 500$...but the one I will probably end up buying is only about 250$. don't spend more than what you're willing to use haha if you don't need a lot of fancy things don't go for it, just go for something simple!
good place to start actually is toys r us! they have some half decent ones there for 50-100$ or so. I'd get them, but I need one that is just 2x higher than what they have there!

I've used the scopes at work a few times to look at a parasite, or a critter from my pond.  A dissecting scope might be fun to have for home use, but you have to consider how often you'd really use it.
