Title: Fluval FX5 - question
Post by: garnpet on April 03, 2006, 04:54:23 PM
Is there anyone who has a Fluval FX5 setup who has built a DIY spray bar for it?

I'm building one right now.
Picture is 33g, it is running for few months with F404.

Neat...is that going to operate on the UGJ concept?

Isn't a spraybar a device near the waterline that spreads out the spray from the output of a filter ?

Or is that horizontal pvc hooked onto the output of the filter?

Yes, but it is under gravel and rocks. There is not much water movement, but gravel stays very clean.
I'm hoping FX5 or similar filter will be strong enough for 120g, want to try to drill smaller holes this time.

Mila:  I'd personally be very interested in hearing how this works out on your bigger tank.

What do you keep in the tank this is running on?

This is Tanganyika tank, no plants, but 120 will be planted.

Nice.

Let us know how it works with the 404 ???
Are your drilled holes on the sides of the tubes, or on the top of them ???

As for the Fluval FX5 External Filter, I saw one in action.
First word, " WOW ".
Second word, " Nice ".
Third word, " Want ".
It's a beast of a filter, not in size, but it turns out water like crazy in a 86 gal. ( 48x20x24 ) tank, surprisingly quiet, the one I saw is sitting straight on the floor with no obstruction to contain noise, it purrs like a large kitten.

I would be interested in hearing of someone who would hook it up to an under gravel spray bar system, my first thought is, that you might actually have a problem with to much pressure coming out of the filter, so you better start drilling a lot of holes, and use large gravel no to knock out the fish when it starts flying around. lol

Hi, Thought I'd add my very inexperienced 2 cents about the FX5. Just got one for an 80gal. and the comment from the rest of the family was who needs a whirl pool tub!! It's very quiet, shuts down about every 24 hrs. to purge air and  no priming. Only had it for a week so will have to wait and see how it is to service?
