Title: Joes Juice
Post by: Boosterman on May 10, 2006, 11:19:41 AM
Hey,
I'm going to buy some Joes Juice.... to kill some Aiptasia and Majano anemones.
It say's to put it up to them and squeeze it in. I have ton's of them can I not just add the stuff to the water?  I have a 110 gal tank and there must be about a dozen or a little more of these little critters
Thanks

It has to be injected directly at the aptasia, as its a strong base that the aptasia needs to ingest for it to work. It will harm other cnidarians (corals, anemones, etc) in yuor tank if you wereto release large quantities into the water.

To get the aptasia to injest the joe's juice (or kalk) try mixing it with Cyclop-eeze powder. I have heard this work very well. Aparently the aptasia will just eat it up, in the process killing themselves.
I would zap the large aptasia and get yourself some peppermint shrimp for the smaller ones.

If you only have ~a dozen aiptasias then I don't think you're got a problem but having said that it's a good time to avoid one by killing what you have.  I use JJ occasionally to keep them under control, but you must be sure to inject the liquid in the center where their mouth is.  Also be careful you don't get a lot on surrounding coral - they will tolerate some exposure but too much will cause damage.

i found pepperment shrimps tobe useless, never touched any big/small aptasias, but did kill 2 flower anemones, some yellow polyp and a beutiful pc of frogspawn!

joes juice is fine, just go easy to avoid overspraying, u can just spray some on it open or close it will be burnt!

some ppl just use regular vinegar, they say it works very well. makes sence coz joes juice smells like vinegar too!

cheers!

When using joes juice, please do not do all your apastasia at onche or you'll crash the tank... Just kill 20 or less and the next day do another 20 etc.....

I weed out my aptasia with a syringe and boiling water on a regular basis.
