Title: Max safe temp for a sw tank
Post by: Julie on May 12, 2006, 04:42:35 PM
As the weather is warming up so is my little 20gallon reef.
It's been up as high as 86.  I don't have a chiller and don't want to turn the AC on yet.
What is the maximum temp your tank has reached safely?
Thanks.

Dont really know what the max would be Julie but last summer my reef tanks were right off the thermometer. I kept lighting down to a minimum during the hot days, and kept my fingers crossed. I will have to get some fans on this summer for the three reef tanks because I am now using MH lighting and keep my fingers crossed.

Hi Julie.
I find that these worm days my reef tank
have been getting quite high  30c/84 f
since running mh and flouro it has been an ongoing
dilema which I'am trying to solve by putting
fans........But What I do know is that Corals
shrink the higher the temp goes.....for the time water temp
stays high
so the only solution to such problem is configure
amount of time you give your tank and if have a
portable fan use it  on your tank and hope for the temp
to go lower.
cheers ;)
