Title: Need plants for discus tank / malawi tank
Post by: robinserena on October 22, 2003, 01:08:39 PM
I'm really not having much luck with plants in my discus tank! Any ideas of what I can put in there? Right now I have a sword thats not doing so well...and another kind which is doing great but I cant remember what it is lol!

On the flip side, what plants can I put in my Malawi tank? The ph is so high, not sure what will thrive.. :?:

Thanks everyone!!

robinserena : Lots of people do not put plants in there cichlid tanks. Many people who do add plants put in plastic. Discus will not generally give you big problems with plants, but they may eat pieces of them. I suggest plastic; most look so real you can't tell the difference. Cheers..... Troy. :)

Hi Robin, the Swords are root feeders so they need a supplement in the substrate.

I am having moderate success with a Red Tiger Lotus, Vallisneria(community fish love munching on it though), and crypts.
I don't have C02 so I choose the larger leaf plants which seem to get by better without it.
