Post by: Jody on November 13, 2017, 11:37:06 PM
Hiya folks,

So for those who went down, there were lots of goodies available for everyone.

I came back with a bunch of great finds
Aphyosemion poliaki killifish
Aphyosemion australe orange killifish
Aphyosemion australe chocolate killifish
Nothobranchius rubripinnis killifish
Megalechis thoracata - spotted hoplo cats
Astatotilapia nubila cichlids
Poecilia perugiae livebearer
Nanochromis parilus
Staurogyne repens plants
Crypt plant

Definitely worth the trip down, and I was able to get rid of a bit of my extra stuff as well.

Jody

Nice group of killifish.

I wonder if those are from Gary Elson, he's really into killifish.

As I don't have tanks ready for fish I came back with a bunch of plants.

I also came back with the list of auction items. Being that a lot of the research I did as a graduate student can be best described as data science This list immediately made me wonder what information could be teased out of it about trends and patterns about the local-ish aquarium hobby community.

So far I have managed to build a database out of the first 6 tables. I'm including the following columns:
- Lot number
- Kingdom
- Phylum/Clade/Division
- Type (Livebearer, Killifish, stem plant)
- Genus
- Species
- Variety
- Continent of original collection
- Region of origin
- Minimum bid allowed
- Common Name
- Number of specimens (if available)
- Age of specimen (if available)

If anyone has any questions they think might be answered by such a database I'd be interested in hearing them!
