 35L tank is really small for comet goldfish long term. Stunted growth is kinda common in undersized tanks and doesn't necessarily mean they're thriving.  If you don't want to upgrade, rehoming the healthy one to someone with a pond or much larger setup is probably the kinder move.

Yeah window screen mesh works fine honestly.I'd just avoid metal mesh because it can rust later on.

I was inspired by the conversation at the end of the March meeting and set up a 20 gallon long at the school I work at.
It's a room where students go when they need support, a calm space to decompress.
I let them design it, they brought in some decor from home as well and I recently brought in some live plants from home.
Every new addition brings so much joy! There's always questions and fun interactions. Each fish has a name, one of the Cherry Barbs is "The Dark Lord", the bn Pleco is Shane. 🙃
It has inspired other teachers in the school, we're making plans for September's return for more tanks in the rooms. How cool! 🥰

Hi everyone,
�I'm looking for some honest advice from the local community regarding my Comet goldfish.
�I have a 35L tank and have had two Comets (both about 10cm) for a couple of years. Interestingly, they haven't grown very much during that time, despite appearing healthy.
�Recently, one of the fish got stuck inside a decoration. I managed to rescue it on Saturday, but it became very weak after I cleaned the interior walls of the tank. The injured fish has not died yet, but it is currently lying on the bottom of the tank with very little movement and irregular gill activity.
�My other goldfish remains healthy and active, but this situation has made me think about the future. I do not want to upgrade to a larger tank, so I am trying to decide what is best for the surviving healthy fish.
�Given that he hasn't grown much in two years, is it acceptable to keep him in the 35L setup? Or should I look for someone in the Ottawa area with a private, managed outdoor pond where he could have more space?
�I want to do what's right for him, so I would appreciate your thoughts on whether he can thrive where he is or if rehoming is the kinder option.

I have 9 that were sold as Espei, but may be Hengeli. I am moving to a larger tank that I'm going to go South American with; they were going to live out their days with a bunch of Cardinals, but if you want them they are yours! I have had them for about 3 years, so lifespan might not give them that much time.
