Could it be a halloween hermit??  They are supposedly reef safe, but I couldn't see them killing a shrimp, was the shrimp already dead perhaps?

If your corals are perishing it has nothing to do with the X
type of hermit you have posted........
have you checked parameters/flow/any new additives/
corals/lights.
was your tank fully cycled before........there is such thing as a mini cycle
in which only the stronger corals will survive thus killing weaker
specimens like xenia/mushrooms/polips and sps.......
check all the above mentiond and keeps is informed.....
do 15 % water chance ASAP.....and keep us up to date on your tank condition.
cheers.

I doubt this hermit will kill your shrimp. It can start eating already dead shrimp - that's why we need them. There are some hermits that are not safe, but they should be huge. Just for example, my 2" (shell diameter) hermits are very peacefull and can terrorize only smaller hermits. Some hermits can mess with corals, but mainly they just irritate them. Look here:

There is one hermit crab in BA Kanata in tank with sharks - this guy probably can be a problem...

Check tank parameters, how old is the tank!, add anything new lately!, what type of lighting and what type of corals are dying!

if your corals are dying then you should definetely check all you're levels, something is off big time.  i've had lots of issues like high nitrates and sudden temperature swings but i havnt lost a coral to date, except maybe a mushroom or pulsing xenia that got stressed and detached from the rock. Calcium, Nitrate, PH, Alkalinity, Ammonia..etc...you need to add calcium for the corals! the types of corals that are perishing could be useful info, also the lights you are running and what not.  do you have a protein skimmer?

i have a bunch of those hermits in my tank. they do get big though but are reef safe. no problems with any of the so far.
