paint for a canopy?

Hi.  Friendly lurker. 

Building a 29 gallon reef, sloooowwwwlllllyyyyy... hehe.

Made a nice canopy, used 1/2" MDF, but it's sweet, fits perfect (second time around anyway).  Now I'd like to know what I should use to paint it.  Previously, back in Kelowna, I went to Home Depot and picked up a pint of stuff called Marine Paint, which was used for boats I think, but completely fish safe stuff.  Checked around Pembroke, and don't see the same stuff.  So, needing advice on what kind of white interior paint which will have atleast 2 65 watt PC lights hovering near it, and black paint which will have no doubt grubby 5 year old fingers hovering near it.
