My thinking is that you only live once and if you like it enough, just get it
The open top and shallow depth really eases maintenance work.  Trimming the plants and cleaning the tank is not as painful to do.  It is still time consuming but not as much of a pain since there isn't any tank cover or plastic bracing in the way.
