Controlling an Aquaclear powerhead?

Does anyone know if I can hook up a controller or wave timer to an Aquaclear 70 Powerhead without burning it out? I have a Koralia 2, and the AC70 in my tank (36 gal), I'd like to get a controller to shut off the AC70 at night. I was also wondering if I could set it up so it comes on intermittently during the day for a bit of a wave effect. Is it possible, or Does it even make sense to do this?

It would work but they are not meant for that.  You will probably also hear some noises and get microbubbles during startup.  Maxijets are most commonly used for this purpose and there are a few good mods you can do to them also.

Thanks! Any recommendations for a cycle during the day? I was thinking of putting it a little closer to the surface to stir it up.

Not sure about the cycle part.  I run a K1 and a K Nano and a MJ900 in my 20High.  All run constantly.

Oh, you have the 20 and the "mini-me" tanks! They both look great! The custom light hanger on the 5.5 was really well done. What kind is the fixture on it?

Maybe I will just get another cheap timer, and have the AC70 pump go off around the same time as the lights. I got a new clown, and he is pretty small. With both powerheads on at night he gets blown around when he tries to sleep with the female.

Thanks.  Its a 16.5 Sunpod with 70 Watt Metal Halide, 3 Blue LED's and 3 White LED's.  Switching to a 20K buld this weekend for more color since I don't need alot of growth.  The timer idea would work fine.  If your looking for the wavemaker though, a simple wavermaker powerbar and some mj's would do the job, or a tunze wavebox or a mp10/20/40... :D
