I have a 90 gallon with 2 hinged glass tops on it. The problem is that my water is very hard so I get a fair amount of white deposits on my tops. Every few months I take the tops off and wipe them down in the sink with vinegar and then rinse them....alot....before putting them back on the tank. This gets them clean but not as clean as I would like. Does anyone have any ideas as to what else I could safely use to clean them?

Thanks.

Did you try the *wet* razor-blade algae scraper? I find it works well to get rid of larger deposits quickly.

Being mostly calcium, you might try a product like CLR and rinse, rinse, rinse. I've also found a razor blade works well on those deposits. I would think TSP would also work well but it might etch the glass so try on a scrap piece first.

If you are comfortable using Muriatic acid from Canadian Tire, it cleans off the most stubborn deposits quickly. I apply it to a paper towel and rub the deposits off.

CLR (house brands are cheaper) is the easiest way of cleaning it

I clean it, then rinse and re-rinse using the shower

Thanks for the ideas guys. I was considering CLR but was a little worried about using it. But I guess if I rinse it like crazy it's all good.

Considering that one of the uses they advertise on TV is for cleaning coffee maker carafes, I wouldn't worry.
