Where did you guys get your co2 tanks?

Gowalkitoff

Davidson's on percy st downtown.  Ask for food grade co2.

HayleYoyo

how much did you pay for yours there?

Gowalkitoff

Approx $100 for a brand new full tank.  15lb i think

HayleYoyo

Not horrible. Their prices must have went up, because they wanted 95 for a 5lbs tank.

I'm thinking of doing a paintball canister. A 20oz tank is about 33 dollars. So it's about 1/3 the quantity for a 1/3 the price. Might be the best option for me.

Gowalkitoff

Just don't use paintball co2, it is not food grade, can poison the tank.

HayleYoyo

Where do you go to fill it up?

lucius

I'm not sure if gas weight is the same as physical weight but there are actually 16 oz in a lb so the 20oz paintball tank would be 1/4 of the 5lb CO2 tank.

You will also need a paintball tank to CGA 320 adapter which will probably run you another $20.

HayleYoyo

I meant 25oz, my mistake.

And the weight of a tank is a reference to how much water the tank can hold. So a 5lbs tank could hold 5lbs of water.

I found a regulator w/bubble counter, check valve and pin valve for $20 (on sale from 30), and it's a 5/8th thread count!

Jody

I paid about $90 for a 5 lb tank a few years back from davidson's,  so the price seems about right.

As far as food grade vs other co2, I have never used food grade, and haven't had a problem. Really before Sodastreams became a thing, I don't think I ever heard the term food grade co2.
I have used Davidson's standard co2 for years and have recommended it to many people over the years, and can't attribute problems to it.
Out of curiosity, I did some reading on planted tank forums and beer forums, and the general consensus is that there is no significant difference between food grade and industrial co2.
Check the costs of tank filling when you are buying. I know Davidson's charges the same to fill a 1lb and a 5 lb, so long term running costs drop a lot with a larger tank.

Thanks Jody.

I think paint ball places are the place to go if i have a smaller tank. They seem to charge by size.

I’m thinking of starting with a small paintball tank, and if it works well for me, upgrading to a bigger tank. I feel I could probably sell the paintball tank after the fact.

I’m having trouble figuring out what makes a good regulator. Anyone know what to loon for?
