Can anyone explain to me the criteria for locking threads? I was enjoying reading the thread on 'Funny Information' and then it got locked. I could see, perhaps moving it to The Lounge, but to lock a thread because it's getting a bit tiring seems weak to me.

This discussion has been beaten to death over and over, and it was getting circular in its comments. Quite pointless from one standpoint.

More importantly, this is a fish club website, and one thing that is not actually good for the club image is to be continually allowing bashing of local fish stores. This is also bad for the club.

Most important of all, if a moderator says that it is locked, though the reason may be lame to you, there is an underlying reasoning of looking for the best interests of the club from the standpoint that this website is the face of the club and we have a responsibility to everyone to keep it civil, friendly, and constructive.

This thread was unproductive and circular, it had nothing further to say and bashing is not welcome on this site.

tiring yes...it is very tiring.  I love a good debate...go look in all the past posts, do you see me locking threads often?  no.  but it gets tiring to hear people bash the stores ALL the time.  do you think it's good for OVAS?  do you think stores will want to offer us discounts when we openly bash their practices?  (not "you" personally, just to all in general).  I find it hard as an exec to walk into BA and such asking for them do things for us, let us use their facilities to promote our club, sell our memberships, knowing people don't really give a damn.  oh wait, they'll give a damn when the discount gets taken away.   >:(

also, more than one person expressed a dislike for these kinds of threads, openly and privately.  I don't mind you asking why, btw, I just thought I'd explain.  and seeing as how I got called a "communist" (not by you) I figured I'd answer.

so my answer is, there is no criteria for locking threads.  we moderate as we feel is necessary to keep our forum running well and a good place for everyone.  if you wish (again not "you" but in general) wish to be able to moderate the forum, become an executive.  as of September 1st I will no longer be, and all I can say (and am sad/sorry to say) is thank god.  :(

Life is too short to wake up with regrets.  So love the people who treat you right.  Forget about the one's who don't.  Believe everything happens for a reason.  If you get a second chance, grab it with both hands.  If it changes your life, let it.  Nobody said life would be easy, they just promised it would be worth it.

[mod: rude comment deleted LOL] In the end mods have to think of what is best for the club, site and the general membership.  So if a couple of people are pissed because it was close so be it.  Way to go Jen for doing the right thing.

And yet, in the 'Stupidest Article' thread we see name calling (can't believe there's no filter for 'arse'), posters promoting hate-mail and spamming and generally, bad-mouthing the author and the Ottawa Sun. Lots of bashing in there. Just sitting here shaking my head.

funny, I wanted to "adjust" that one a little too, but bit my tongue in the name of "free speech".  go figure.   ::)

my main point for the PS thread locking was it was going nowhere and would possibly be dertrimental to the benefits we ask retailers to give us.  I highly doubt big wigs @ PS read our website...but if they did, I wouldn't want to be the one to approach them for future discount possibilities.  :-[  :-\

I think this thread is going to go downhill just as fast as the Free Speech one, so I'll go ahead and shut it down right away.  I'll let one of the other moderators take care of the Free Speech one
