my 50 gal tank sprang a leak 2 months ago. I was way; lost all fish ; had to re-finish hardwood floor . Bought the right silicone , re-caulked tank ; bogth new fish . the other day my tank sprang a big leak ; saved the fish, must refinish  damn wood floor again .

I guess I am an incompetent caulker . Does any body know of a professional that could do a competent job sealing my tank?  Tank is 6 yrs old --should I be buying new ?

Did you take the tank totally apart and silicon the pieces all back together? Or did you just reseal the inside portion. Most likely the tank needs a complete tear apart and reseal.

If the glass was not completely clean, the silicon will not make a good seal.

IMO.
Its only a 50 gal.Buy a new tank.It has cost you more on fish and refinishing the floor than what a tank is worth.

If you going to buy new get a good quality tank. You might even want to look at low iron glass for the front. Downfall is it cost more but on a smaller tank might not be worth it. Also is your stand perfectly level in all plains? If the stand is twisted, when the tank is filled, it will put presure on the tank and often result in the tank failing. Preasure int eh centre at the bottom can result in a broken tank for example. Ask busdriver about is nightmare and his 150 cracking. There was too much preasure in the centre of the tank pushing up.
