ARGH why don't you fit?!

Sooo

after buying two different styles of lids, they don't fit my 20 gallon tank. They fit one, but not the other. Sooo who's bright idea was it to make one slightly off size?!?!!?!?

Ended up with a glass perfecto top, I cut the backing plastic piece and put it on the 2 sides to hold it OVER the top of the tank, otherwise it fell right thru. But weird thing is, it sits JUST fine on my other 20 gallon.

anyone else run into this?? And I didn't want to fork out the $$'s for the lid/light combo that sits on top the tank instead of inside on the lip because I have a billion light fixtures (ok not that many but at least 6) soooo why spend that much $$ when I could spend $20 and cut it up!?

So $23 later with a pair of snips, I cut up the plastic backing and now have a lid for my 2nd 20 gallon tank much frustration and yelling and the fish nipping at me later... (they weren't impressed with me)


Anyone else see this happen?

Oh yes!  I come across that all the time!!  I also have some tanks that I've had to return a lit to try another type.  Hagen makes their lids and tanks 1/8" smaller than All Glass. Too bad because the All Glass glass tops are my favourite!

I bought a lid @ the big auction.  I thought it would fit a 10g, but I was wrong; obviously for a larger tank.  Maybe it will fit yours?

oh dear LOL! why can't all lid sizes be stamped somewhere on the glass?!!?! wouldn't that make our lives easier??

thank's HappyGuppy! But I ended up Frankenstein'ing the one I bought for $20, and now Ican't return it LOL but it works!!

and yep, it's just ever so slightly off, so slightly that all I had to do was add a thread of plastic to the edge and presto changeo it fits! but after much cutting and filing so I don't slice my hands off!!

I wish I had a lid for a 10 g to give you!!

Thanks just the same for wishing to offer a lid for a 10g (I could use one) but I was offering you mine, if it fit, with no strings.  Glad you got yours working though.

Depends if its a 20 tall or a 20 long...

I ran into the same problem awhile back.

yeah but a long vs tall is a LOT different, not 1/4 of an inch!!
