Hello everyone,

My name is Christopher, and I'm thrilled to join the OVAS!

I'm a complete newcomer to the world of fish keeping, and my journey started quite unexpectedly. For years, I've wanted a pet, but my allergies to dogs and cats made it impossible. A childhood dream of having a fish tank finally became a reality when my aunt's neighbor decided to get rid of their old tank. It was fully equipped so I was quick to rescue it, and start my new adventure.

What began as a simple idea for a pet has pivoted to a fascinating new hobby. I've realized that fish keeping is about much more than just the fish—it's about creating and maintaining a thriving ecosystem, complete with beautiful aquatic plants. I'm currently in the process of setting up my first tank, a freshwater community tank, and I'm eager to learn all the ins and outs.

I joined the society & forum to connect with fellow enthusiasts locally, find tips and resources for everything from tank maintenance to keeping my plants healthy, and hopefully find a new home for any fish or equipment that needs one. By day I work remote full-time in finance/accounting, so I thought it is the perfect time to get the tank set up and keep an eye on the break-in period. I will likely go with a fishless start-up to avoid undue stress on potential roommates from biological spikes.

I'm excited to learn from all of you and can't wait to dive in!

Sidenote: I always thought the Canadian Quarter featured a caribou not a moose
