Alright, I've seen countless number of posts for vinager eels and other smelly creatures grown in batches of oatmeal.

Here's one that doesn't smell as bad and doesn't require much effort:  Homebrew bloodworms!

They wont be "official" bloodworms bought in stores, but they are probably just as good when it comes to feeding our needy fish.  I'm talking about mosquito larva and other fun little critters that magically "appear" in our standing water.  Just before harvesting, I feed them some good powdered fish food...

Now, onto the steps to "harvest" these fun critters.

1-Get a bunch of 4 lt ice cream tubs (enjoy the ice cream first, wether it be napoleon, vanilla or chocolate), and clean them well.
2 (optional)-Place a small later (2cm) of dirt in the bucket (optional).
3-Place grass cuttings into the container, pack well.  Leave atleast an 2 inches of space from the rim to the compressed grass cuttings.
4-Fill with stagnant water...top water is fine too (dont worry about the chlorine/chloramine).
5-Store OUTSIDE in the shade.
6-Wait 3 days.

After a few days, you will see things swimming around the water.  This is where I dump them out into a clean container, feed them crushed boiled eggs yolk, then feed them to my fish.  MAKE SURE all your fish CONSUME these critters or you're next batch of larvae will be that of your own kin (dna)...

Thats OK.  If you forget about the "swimming" bugs, they'll turn to mosquitoes in about a week or two.

Do you just dump the whole container of water and bugs into the tank or do you fish the bugs out with a net first?

I'm assuming he is seperating the blood worms from their original water source in prep for the aquarium

Yes, I am taking them out of there current stagnant water source and placing them into the tank.  I dont want to polute my tankwater, just becase the nature of the water.

Bloodworms are a non biting Midge. Sort of like a mosquito. Throw in some cow/sheep manure and you will be sure to atract some mosquito or Midge larva.   :D
Their larva feed on rotifers that are fed on bacteria/algae.

You see, then you enter the "stinky" factor.  Atleast with my way, you only smell wet grass... lol
