I got a sps a while back to see how well it did under my pc lighting. Suprize! It's doing well and over a month later it has started showing growth. But I don't know what species of sps this is so can you guys help me figgure this out. The color is tan and the polyps are flourescent green. It is mounted up high in the tank but still about 8"-10" below a coralife 1x65w 50/50 striplight.

Looks like its lost most of its green from being under pc but it is a type of green Montipora cap. It might survive abit longer under pc lighting but it will slowly turn brown then white as it dies.

that looks more like a greenish monti cap....
type of SPS coral.......
lucky you if you get one......!!!

My guess would be a green Montipora capricornus.

A small 3/4" frag that I put in my tank about a year ago is now cup-shaped and about 6 or 7 inches across growing near the top of my tank.  It is lit by normal output fluorescent lighting (1/2 the tubes are actinic, 1/2 the tubes are 6500K deluxe daylight). (see photo)  Yours may just be taking a while to acclimatize or as Darkphreak indicated may not appreciate some aspect of the lighting or water parameters or may be doing just fine.  Tough to tell from a distance.

Ye have little faith  ;)

It was a gimme to see if it would work and has grown a whole new lobe since that shot. It is too early to tell how well things will go, and I'll upgrade the lighting if I start to loose stuff. It will be interesting to see where they are at in another three months ;D

Thankyou for the help guys. I'm going to do some surfing for its natural habitat and see what I come up with.
