Got a quick question, just bought a new emperor bio wheel filter and the impeler is making noise. Is that normal, you can really hear it

Thanks
Marc

Do you have water in it?

Carefully disassemble it and check the impeller. It may need waste plastic trimmed off.

Just took it apart and look and everything looks alright and still makes noise, are these HOB filters noisey? if so i'll return it and get the Aquaclear 110

Adam

I like the AC110s more, but let it run for a few days...

The propellor will develop a slime coat and quiet down.  This happens in all my HOB filters.

i have several emperors, and they are not noisy. insure everything is put together properly and you have no air in the impellor area before starting the filter.

I prefer biowheels, because they have a biowheel :)

But I admit, aquaclears tend to work better if you water level goes down,,

scorpion-stinger

yes, everything is ok but i'll wait a week and see

Thanks
Marc

scorpion-stinger

ohh forgot to mention, it sounds like a computer fan with the bearings gone on it

mseguin

Do yuo have sand as ur substrate?
Also make sure everything is fitting tightly, could be air in the system.

scorpion-stinger

No air in system and no sand substrate. I use gravel

kennyman

The rubber bushing thing may not be lined up right with the seat on that tube that sides down over it. Sometimes I put my impeller into that piece first than then slide the piece in to make sure its seated right.

scorpion-stinger

I took it all apart lastnite and put it carefullly togeather. I made sure everything was all ok and still makes blown bearings of a fan.

kennyman

I have the older Penguin model so mine is not exactly the same but I think the only thing you should hear is the pitter-patter of the biowheel.

scorpion-stinger

yeah, I hear that but the other noise isnt normal, really weird

repeej

I use to have 2....one that was very quiet and the other one was nosier....similar to what you describe.  I researched the issue on the net and low and behold it's a common problem for Emperor 400's.

If the unit is that new bring it back to the store and exchange it for a quieter one.

scorpion-stinger

would you get the aquaclear 110?

scorpion-stinger

Well, after almost a week just a tiny bit of the impellor noise, I fixed so no more noise comes from it, wanna know how I fixed it so it now and is very silent  :D :D ?  I put PRIME where the impellor is, it's soooo quiet now!  lol  ;D

homestar726

I have a emperor 400 too, Its kinda in between. Not super noisey, but not super quiet either... What is this PRIME you speak, maybe it will work for me  :D
