My father-in-law wanted to know if he could use is above ground pool pump (inflatable pool at wal-mart with a pump) for a circulation pump in a pond.  I think that it might be a bit too strong but hey, I'm into marine aquarium not ponds.

So the question is...is the pump to strong to make a circulation pump for a pond?

Hi,

The pond can't be too strong but it can have to much flow for the pond. The pump must match the size of your pond and also the filter system. If you have a 1000 gallon pond, it is recommended to have a pump between 1000 and 2000 gallon an hour. If you filter system can handle 1000 gallon an hour, it will not do the job if you have a 3000 gallon pump.
An other point is that most pool pumps must be installed under the water line in stead of above the water line.
Thanks,

The Pond Boy,
Greg
