Hinged Tops - do they block too much light?

I've started keeping discus and due to the higher temperatures I'm considering getting glass tops for my 55G w/ center brace, similar to

Does the plastic hinge block too much light? Would a solid piece of glass be preferable?

I don't think you will experience much loss of light from the hinge.
