I was wondering what would be the best method to remove the residue of silicon off aquarium glass.
I've removed most of it using a razor blade, but there's still some left.
Is their a product i can use?

extra extra extra fine steel wool will work and if your VERY careful! It normally does not scratch the glass. If your rough it can scratch so be carefull. But you need to get all but the very smallest smears off with the razor blade first or the steel wool does not work.

Coarser steel wool then the extra extra extra fine can scratch glass.

Rubbing alcohol and a razor blade always works for me.

You could try vodka also...I mean to drink while your cleaning the glass, I find a martini always makes work go by much quicker

I was walking down the street and a man was hammering on a roof top and he called me a Paranoid Little Weirdo. . . in morse code.

I use vinegar when I scrub too, helps any hard water stains vanish... Nothing really dissolves the silicon that would be fish safe. Good old elbow grease is needed to remove it!

Hi,

There was a long thread about this problem some time ago. See link below. I still stand by my assertion that some #0000 steel wool and a lubricant/solvent like toluene or acetone, along with a careful application will do the job for you. Hope this helps.

I have used Brake Cleaner and it removes everything.  Rince with hot water and dishsoap when finished and then rince again with hot water.  Voila no more silicon residue and very clean glass.  I have never lost a fish yet and I have resealed 3 tanks.

WD40 works but make sure it's well rinsed
