My DIY Nano Thread

well convinced my wifey that i needed a light on my night stand, and it turned into a diy nano tank.

my plan
a 14''x10''x10'' tank that is divided into 2 so the display tank will be 10x10x10 leaving 4x10 for the baffles, diy filter, heater, powerhead..bla bla..

materials so far.
5x 14''x10'' acrylic sheets at 1/4'' (thanks to canus)
3x 10''x10'' acrylic sheets at 1/4'' (thanks to canus)
^one extra of each.
100% silicone rubber (home depot)
a square w/ level (home depot)
painters tape (dollar store)
25w actinic blue (cant remember)
15w white (cant remember)
3x very small LED's (dollar store)
aqua clear 30 power head that will be modded for filtration (cant remember)
some old cupboard shelves for the diy light hood

not yet got
very small base trim & corner trim flashing
...prolly more

so far i have
silicone all four sides and bottom (have not done divider)
messed around with the power head

next i will be doing
on dividing wall drilling hole for my power head to fit through
on dividing wall routering out some notches for water to be filtered


ill post some pics later with the progress, im tired and buzzed a little from the silicone

When you say silicone, do you mean silicone or methylene chloride?!?

Silicone will not hold acrylic.

One way to get around the silicone/acrylic issue when installing baffles is you can first silicone plastic window channels to hold the baffles and then silicone the baffles into the channels.  That is assuming it's a Saturday and everyone who sells methelyne chloride is closed

sounds cool. tagging along as i'm thinking of doing something similar. I guess you are doing an all-in-one and not having it drilled?

Pretty much what I tried.  I used 1/4 for the baffle and used silicon.  The weight from the water caused the seal to break for the back wall so I ended up ditching that idea and going with a fuge for the back rather than the AIO idea.

so thanks to the woman at Home Depot i had to......
peal off all the silicone and giving it a RA rubdown. thanks lady, thanks.
should have just asked canus the first time i was there..

today after work i
went back to canus and got 4 4''x10'' by 1/8th pieces for baffles. and custom pieces
got the Meth Chlo & applicator
a scrap piece to do a few practice holes in
a small plastic box to have my little overflow tray.


later on tonight i will re-glue it all, including baffles.
and update with pics.

NOW, i'll go enjoy the weather since i only worked a half day today.

i just might as well post it when im done.
