Is there a way to not have the classified ad's section show up when you click "Show unread posts since last visit."?

Just wondering if it's possible, and if it's something that's been discussed.

BTW, I do not want to start the typical war over the classified ad forum...  :P

Are you looking for the "show unread posts since last visit" to pop up the results of the URL below?
http://ovas.ca/index.php?board=6.0

I can confirm the posts from the classified section are included in the results from "show unread posts since last visit".  I only read the site based on "show unread posts since last visit" and am not aware of missing any posts wether from Freshwater, Planted, Saltwater, Classified, Vendors, etc.

Hope this helps.

I want the opposite...

Today: When I click "Show unread posts since last visit." - I get all post that I've never read, not just since last visit btw.

Request: When I click "Show unread posts since last visit." - I get all posts that I've never read, EXCEPT for those in the classified forum.  i.e. I get all real content, and no classifieds... I can easily click the classifieds link if I care to browse...

Just a hope to separate the noise from the content.  8)

Got it... I will extend on that wish for functionlaity.  If we could "subscribe" to forums we wish to follow that would be great.  I would personally like to exclude, freshwater, plants, cichlids, etc.  If it is not Salt or for sale, I personally have little interest.

"Show unread posts since last visit." is a little misleading, it is all unread messages regardless of visits.

After you click "Show unread posts since last visit.", you have an option near the top right to "Mark all messages as read".  If you click this it will update all unread posts to read and reset everything for your next visit.  You just have to keep marking everything as read if you do not intend to read it and want to use the "Show unread posts since last visit." feature.

You can go to the main forum page and click on to see new messages filtered for each board.

Is that what your are looking for?

Not exactly.  That would work but would require clicking on all forums of interests, which when you include the sponsors forums it is a little cumbersome.

I "think" we are both looking for a way to exclude/filter posts from the "Show unread posts since last visit." functionality.  In Hookup's case he does not want to see posts from the Classified forum, in my case I do not want to see posts from freshwater, plants, cichlids.

Yeah exactly.. .Ross's version is more advanced... His idea is more functional and more customizeable and could accomplish the same thing.

I just want to elimiate the major hunk of noise, as I define noise, which is the classifed ads.  The ads have no info in them, and are not what I'm here for...  The rest is all "fishy stuff"...  I do check out the build's in fresh water from time to time, I like to listen in... etc... but that's my preference really.

To me, the site has three areas.
1) content
2) classified ads
3) sponsor forums

A checkbox beside the "Show unread posts since last visit." that says "include classifed ads [ ]" would be one way of implenting this, from a UI point of view..   Alternately, simply removing classified ad's from the results list (before or after the query is done) would be another great implementation... ;)

Glad to see this works for you.

Why don't you use a bookmark to you want to create your own filter?
show the new salty stuff
go shopping

Any advanced filter for unread posts is not implemented at the moment. I will look into it after I update the current site.
