I recently purchase a 5.5 gallons aquarium for my girls new fish without a cover. What would you suggest as a cover, do not want a light install, just something to prevent the cat to be too interested at the fish.

Egg Crate

Or a piece of Plexiglass or Glass cut to size.  It wouldn't be expensive for that size of tank.  $15 at most I would say.

Great, this is really a good idea, easy to get.
Thank you

I would suggest glass or Plexiglas.  This way you get less evaporation.

I used plexi it sags a lot. I had a tank that size and used acrylic it sagged so much it slipped off the lip of the tank into the water. A small piece of glass is cheap.

i had plexi on mine with a light fixture sitting on it with no problems.

I've used plexi, it sagged after 10 years...I think it depends on the type of plexi you buy.

I do think the crate will be good, the evaporation will not be a real factor with the weekly water change.

Thank you
