Cichlid identification needed

Hello all. I purchased a Cichlid at the OVAS auction a couple of years ago (it was actually 2 but one died shortly after getting them home). They were quite young so I would say that he is 2 years old now. I failed to keep the paper that gave its identification. Over the last 2 weeks he has made a dramatic change, can anyone tell me what it is and why he has changed. I'm hoping the person who bred it and sold it to me will be able to help. I've attached the before and after pictures.
