A fish-friendly reminder from the Ottawa Valley Aquarium Society…

We are keeping the fin-times rolling with our October presentation!  We are excited our resident CAOAC speaker, Jody McManus will be speaking on Botia, or loaches, which are often overlooked as a extraordinary bottom dweller. Please join us this Monday! Also, a reminder that our mini livestock auction is in November.

Presentation – Botia, the Other Bottom Dweller [Jody McManus]

The presentation will explore a fascinating group of freshwater fish from the family Botiidae, commonly known as botia or loaches.  Native to fast-flowing rivers and streams across South and Southeast Asia, these benthic species are known not only for their unique morphology and social behavior but also for their ecological role within both natural and captive environments.  These are some of the most active, curious, and personality-packed fish you can add to an aquarium.

Jody McManus, runs an extensive fishroom / fish-basement, with over 50 aquariums!  He has been successful at breeding and raising numerous fish species, ranging from livebearers to cichlids, from around the world. In addition, Jody is our Breeders Award Program (BAP) Chair, and he encourages and supports members’ documented breeding successes, further contributing to the distribution of aquarium species within our OVAS membership.
