Hi folks,

I know the difference between the two but what I want to know is..... Being told that a 21watt T5 is equal to a 40watt T12 raised the question that....will my plants do well with what "looks" like a 40 watt or does it still consider the bulb to be a 21watt?

Hope this question makes sense  :-\

I'm asking because I'm upgrading my lighting on my 120gal (72" wide) that currently has a fixture that doesn't fit (48" Coralife 130watt).  I have low light plants that are doing really well with this incorrect sized fixture but...time to get with the program  ;)

Cheers and thanks a bunch.

Your plants don't care about your electricity bill. All watts do is tell you how much energy you are using. The efficiency of the bulb/ballast dictates how much of that energy gets converted into light. The spectrum of the bulb dictates how much of that light is useable by your plants.

Apart from that I cant offer any more info. I Hope someone else can help you out more.
