Watts vs Lumens with T5s

Hi folks,

I know the difference between the two but what I want to know is..... Being told that a 21watt T5 is equal to a 40watt T12 raised the question that....will my plants do well with what "looks" like a 40 watt or does it still consider the bulb to be a 21watt?

Hope this question makes sense 

I'm asking because I'm upgrading my lighting on my 120gal (72" wide) that currently has a fixture that doesn't fit (48" Coralife 130watt).  I have low light plants that are doing really well with this incorrect sized fixture but...time to get with the program

Your plants don't care about your electricity bill. All watts do is tell you how much energy you are using. The efficiency of the bulb/ballast dictates how much of that energy gets converted into light. The spectrum of the bulb dictates how much of that light is useable by your plants.


Apart from that I cant offer any more info. I Hope someone else can help you out more.
