I can't sleep with all the racket! (yes, babblefish, that's why I'm up past my bedtime  ::)).

If you have one of these that you're willing to part with (preferably a *new* one), please PM me.

EDIT:  I'm no longer looking for one but thought there was some really good material in this thread so I moved it to FW Discussions

if that is making noise and is not broken then it might just need a new shaft or has to be cleaned good cause all they do is spin, shouldn't be able to cause noise  ;) (or maybe i'm wrong, that does happen from time to time, I'm just a man after all  ;D)

PaleoFishGirl

Last time this happened (yes, it's happened before ::)) it was *because* I cleaned it.  I replaced it with a new one and it was fine until now and no, I didn't clean it this time.   Maybe I should, I guess it couldn't get any worse (famous last words?).

Can you get a new impeller shaft without buying the whole impeller? If so, I'd be willing to try it.  Does anyone have one they'd like to part with?

You can always just pick up a new impeller.  I picked up a new one for my 303 yesterday at Big al's (Kanata).  Although a bit steep at $22, but it did the trick for me! :)

you should also make sure your Impeller Well Insert is not pluged, if it is pluged that might be why there is noise, water is not lubricating the impeller properly. link is below if you don't know what part i mean

Interesting... I've never even seen the 'well insert' before  :-[
Thanks for all of the info!

PaleoFishGirl

So I took the impeller assembly apart tonight and checked it out (I found the well insert, cool!).

Everything seemed okay, the shaft is fine, no major scratches on the impeller, etc.  I flipped the shaft upside down for good luck, hooked it back up and it's quiet as a mouse (why do they say that, mice are terribly noisy?).

The impeller cover *might* not have been tightly in place before :-[  I wonder if that's what happened last time, too  ::)  :-\

Thanks for all your help, everybody!

well really in most cases there is nothing wrong with the impeller it just needs everything cleaned well, if you break something then yes buy new parts but as with most types of filters the impeller is the only moving part and really there is not much that can go wrong with the impeller (unless you break the plastic fins off it) if dirt gets in like sand it can damage the impeller but even then it should still work, when noise occurs usually the channel or impeller well insert gets clogged and stops the water from lubricating the impeller shaft causing the noise, the shaft in the fluvals are ceramic so yes the can where out but you just need to get a new shaft if that happens not the complete impeller

anyways hope i was helpful and saved you some cash
