Over the last few auctions I have purchased 2 Broad leaf Red Swords...

Well they have grown like weeds over the last few months... but I have no little sword plants :(. What should I expect?

My Black Sword grows plantlets...

My large Amazon Sword (?) seems to grow root extensions.

If I cut the root mass into smaller pieces..would that work.

Thanks in advance

Different swords propagate differently.  If you have E. rose a.k.a. Indian Red Sword, then they propagate by adventitious shoots.  This is the same as my ruffled swords (E. martii)  The plant will grow a thick stalk that will shoot straight up to the surface.  One it gets there, let it get above the waterline to flower (try to keep it from drying out too much) and then when the flowers start to shrivel, bend the stalk back under the water line.  The plantlets will form in nodes off the stalk, and will likely start while the plant is flowering.

Leave the plants under water and attached to the stalk until they develop healthy enough root systems to be planted on their own.
