Wow Congrats on the massive tank!

Patience is tough, but I recommend you take your time.  It took me a year to plan and set up my system.  However, I am not suggesting you take that long.  I noted in your signature that you are planning on a mixed reef.  You have a good tank size for this.  One question:  will you be adding more live rock?  and if so will you add it all at once or a little over time.  Each method will require a different approach.

You will have big fun with the tank.  Congratulations.

Yeah adding A LOT more live rock, and it will be added little by little or cured in another tank, at the left end I am making A few large caves  and  in the middle and front big LR pillar's so fish have a lot of swimming room, to the right I'm making several smaller caves, And on the back small mounds of LR with pieces and in the very front round med size pieces for separate colony's of coral in the near the glass

Good planning on the rock structure.  Looking forward to the progress.

My 30 gallon will become a frag tank and a natural qt tank(not for new stock but for stock that may get sick), (use of cleaner species and such, I find keeping fish in a tank tank rather then qt makes them heal faster and keeps them more relaxed while treating)

nissannx

true but if your dosing medicine with your coral frags they may not do so well. you might want to double check that

I use Organic Ich attack, 100% safe for coral and LR.

ah, you lucky girl!   8)  what are you planning to put in it?  any particular "centrepiece fish"?
Tanks: salty nano cube, working on a fresh 125

Life is too short to wake up with regrets.  So love the people who treat you right.  Forget about the one's who don't.  Believe everything happens for a reason.  If you get a second chance, grab it with both hands.  If it changes your life, let it.  Nobody said life would be easy, they just promised it would be worth it.

So Far I have planned out these fish, The black and yellow tangs Will be the centerpiece as they are fast moving and the colours would look great alongside each other.

yellow tang
Black tang (once very established)
Chevron tang (pending)
( one or two more small tangs, Still deciding)
Two orange Percs
Mardrain dragonette (once established)
yellow watchman goby
royal gramma baslet
One spot fox face
red fire fish
purple fire fish
Pearly jaw fish
yellow clown goby
Small school of Banner cardinal fish
Atlantic pygmy angel
One or pair of Heniochus
Maybe a copperband butterfly
Lots 'o' little neon gobies (I just love em)

And maybe a few more reef safe fish that are small, I want a very busy feel to the tank.

What's your filtration/skimming?  Obviously Live Rock, but i'm curious about your choice of P-Skimmer, Reactors, Fuge, etc, etc...

Not sure yet what P skimmer it is going to be but it's the right one, Pat ordered the one I need.

The sump is being installed in the spring, and after that I am going to be slowly adding more equip like Ph moniters and such, reverse osmosis..all that nice stuff.

Right now I have a giant ehime Pro on it to move some water as well as a korallia 3, I will be adding more flow.

kennyman

A good sandbed can do as much or more than rock. Keep emphasis on the skimmer and flow. Dont worry about this generalized 1-2 lb/gal of LR that everyone keep on about. Also look into fluidized sandbed filtration if you are going fish intensive as opposed to a high light hard coral based tank.

Tyler.L

so you're lookin at around 20+ fish or so?

tops 2 tangs maybe 3...not 4-5,they need open space so anything schooling will take up some room

bannerfish/heniochus are not scienticially the same, but common names are alike. so what cardinalfish are you looking into, longspine, pajama, bangaai?

alot of +/- of a cbb i personally wouldnt chance it but if you wanna try it go for it

gonna have to be a massive skimmer, and a massive sump if you wanna keep all of those fish. Are you going with any corals or FO?
get the ro unit now especially with it being a 150g tank gonna be to much work without an ro unit
