Ok,
So admittedly i'm coming off of a bad day, so this rant is brought to you by the letter F.  For Frign Friday people...

I'm so sick of people not being able to post photos I think we need an _auto-ban for life_ feature for anyone who cannot figure out how to do it... Seriously, if you pull your head out of the crevase you keep it in for 10 seconds you'll find at least 20 threads detailing how to add photos, and heaven forbid you actually explore the features/buttons of the screen you are working on and use the "advanced features" link.. OMGWTFBBQ

  Rant over..

Can anyone think of an easy way to help the hopeless? Can we make an "upload image" button in the standard formatting set of buttons?  Something subtle like "THIS BUTTON LETS YOU ADD A PHOTO TO YOUR POST, BUT ONLY IF YOU PUSH IT... PLEASE PUSH IT!"  you know... not to in-your-face obvious, but good none the same.

Second rant over...  srry.. but I feel better... OVAS.CA therapy i guess.

To be honest the,  '+ Additional Options...' button is not very intuitive. Maybe it could labeled, 'Upload Files'? Also when there are links on a website they are usually underlined. No one can RTFM there ain't one.  ::) Can do it the way I learned a long time ago... point the gun and pull the trigger - start clicking.

Well, where should I start...  "+ Additional Options..." isn't only used to handle attachments. I guess that we should not relabel it after all.

Ever seen the Help tab at the top of every single page on the site?  It points here: http://ovas.ca/index.php?action=help
While reading that fine manual, you could stumble upon the Posting link which takes you to: http://ovas.ca/index.php?action=help;page=post

Guess what! There's even an "Additional Options" section on that page!  Look for it right here: http://ovas.ca/index.php?action=help;page=post#additional

Enjoy!

I am being as the OP sarcastic! OR was he?

BUT ~ I am saying it is Not Very Intuitive! Why not Options & Photos or word photo in it somewhere? Plus underlined...

OR when members join they get the link/s for http://ovas.ca/index.php?action=help and/or http://ovas.ca/index.php?action=help;page=post

YES ~ I have seen the Help Button that is how I learned. BUT I am not other people - obviously...  ;D

my post is there to help everyone, not to tell dan2x38 how to post pictures. I know that you know how to post.

Hookup

I'm only half sarcastic.  I mean common, it's really easy to figure out, we all agree, yet each week there are about 1/2 dozen, or more, threads where user-x says ... i could not post a photo because...

So while I agree it is easy, apparently it ain't easy enough... (insert derogatory comment about a lack of common sense in society here  :P )

Not trying to create work, just one of those things that if someone had time, and happened to be working in the right section of the web-site maybe a new "idiot proof" button could be added... The current button simply throws the [IMG] tags in and ppl who are not familiar with HTML get scared... and I think they stop looking for solutions... so maybe that button could redirect to a browse-feature letting me pick a file on my desktop and upload it?

There is only one perfect solution... Dan nailed it...

Hey man, i'm with you 100%.. personally, I would add a button to the top saying, if you do not know how to attach photos click here > [photo-newb]   and upon pressing it it would delete your account and ban your IP...

I'm agreed it's simple... but then what is causing people to say "I couldn't upload photos, I tried but couldn't figure it out" or "it was broken" or whatever the lame excuse is?

Groupie02, don't take any of this personal, the site is well managed/maintained for sure... without question, or argument... seriously this is not about you, or anyone in particular... just an observation.. one that gets my blood-boiling...   I need a smoke break...

groupie02

No worries, I'm not taking this personally. I was just wondering if you had a different view of the feature than what I get as an admin. When I do the photo contest poll and need to upload the pictures, I love the fact that I can just click in the filename text area and it pops up the file selector.

The problem with building something idiot proof is that the world keeps producing better idiots. It's a never ending circle ;D

Excuse me - Where is the any key?

When I was a network admin back on the Mayflour I had two logins. One was an administrator with the powers of God and the other was a standard user. This prevented virus' getting full access, others full access if I remained logged on and I saw what everyone else saw on the LAN.

According to the industry's best practices, that's exactly what you're supposed to do Dan. Keep the lowest privileges possible to do you job. In the case of this site, in order to do my job, I need the webmaster privileges.

I used to have 2 other accounts. One with a club member tag and another one without the tag. This allowed me to switch my views to ensure that everyone was seeing what they are supposed to see. I have deleted to accounts as I'm on my way out.

P.S. I have put the any key in my top drawer as I kept on hitting it.

dan2x38

Did you keep the cup holder on your computer?

I actually had one. It looked somewhat like this:

I've got a cup right beside my computer and I keep pressing the Tab key, and it never comes out... Why do they tease me?  I'm so thirsty...

And along the same lines, have you guys heard the radio commercial about tech support? The tech asks "is the computer pluged into the wall?", the response is, "My computer didn't come with a wall..."   Cracks me up every time.

dan2x38

True story - the cup holder is the CD tray... when CD drives started being installed in machines when they shipped someone called some techy somewhere requesting a replacement cup holder... Believe it or!
