hello everyone. i've been told the female guppy i have  is pregnant :)

but today she has started pooing long stringy white poo's.anyone know why. is this a pregnancy thing or is it a parasite/worm/icky thing.

thanks in advance .

cichlidicted

a picture would be great ... its hard to identify if its a parasite or not just by description ... but if its still there till now then its a parasite.

Anyways the common way of knowing if its preg. or not is a large belly and and a dark spot under then fish's tail.

in my experience with guppies .. i had it once, but it was stuck to the guppies body and not coming out from the inside.
what i did is that i pulled the thing with a tweezer... fish was not harmed.

stringy poop is not usually good.  It's often a sign of a parasitic infection.  Sometimes feeding with medicated food can help....or just wait and see.  I would just wait for now.

If she's really fat with the dark spots, like cichlidicted mentioned, then it's likely that she's carrying babies.  A little floating weed will help some of them survive, if that's what you want.

 :'(

she died i found her this morning.

i do believe she was pregnant because she had a dark spot around her civid area and looked really chubby.

i dont know what it was but i hope it doesnt infect my other fish....all their bowel movements look normal for fish poo though...i guess only time will tell.thanks for the info guys/gals.

Sorry about the loss of the guppy.  Keep an eye on the others....if they are bred out-of-doors or wild-caught then they would have a higher chance of having parasites than tank-bred ones.  Not that I'm saying tank bred are always better, just that the environment is more controlled.

Was this a newly-introduced fish?

bluewaters79

yes she was. i was advised to get  a fish  to help cycle my tank.

OttawaReefer

Ah...so the tank isn't cycled yet.   You may be in for a few more losses before it finished the cycle.

Keep a close eye on your water parameters and do lots of water changes.

My pregnant female guppies are pooping weird. The one that gave birth yesterday has always had white stringy poops now that all of her babies are out her poop today has been a dark green that isn’t stringy. I have another female guppy that is currently in labor therefore she is pooping a lot more then usual her poop is white and stringy but this is normal for her. This is also how my other guppy was pooping before her birth. Is this just a symptom of labor or could it be a parasite?
