FYI. Caught my interest. I thought I would share. Thoughts? I haven't done any calculations or comparisons. I've read posts in the pasts where someone actually gathered strings of LED Xmas lights to go over their tanks - this would be a better method of doing that.

For LED, 3.5W for 270 Lumens = 77 Lumens Per Watt
For CF, 23W for 1300 Lumens =  56 Lumens Per Watt

So with the LED bulb you are getting a 37.5% efficiency improvement compared to CF.

Low powered LEDs - no comparison to the higher-powered LED, like Vince is doing.

Cheers, Steve

Vincenzo.

this would not be good for growing anything but for a moonlight on a very large tank, high up.

The LEDs on this tank are also by Lights of America but they're a mini-flood style; about $9 at Wal*Mart. Crappy picture. The tank is not as yellow as it looks. Tank is 18" deep.
