LFS don't carry any HC or Glosso.   Does anyone sell these types of plants locally.  Shipping is really expensive from online places.

Keep an eye on the classifieds, there is usually someone selling their cuttings/extras.  Or post your own Looking For ad and someone will contact you.

Probably the best store to buy plants from is La Niche.  Check their info in the forum sponsors section.

Hi :)

I was also wondering the same thing as I have been searching for any type of ground covering plants for my 3 (soon to be 4) tanks. La Niche has a nice variety of plants but no mosses. They gave me a little bit of Java moss that came with my new shrimps, but I was planning to build moss backgrounds for at least one tank and see how it goes. I need lots of moss for that. I have also been to Big Al's on Innes Rd. but they said it's off season and they won't be getting any for a while. Our best bet is to find hobbyists in the region. Ordering online is expensive indeed and I am told it's pretty risky too as the shipments are often discolored or rotten. Personally, I fell in love with Hemianthus Callitrichoides but can't find it anywhere. Does anyone have any idea where I can get that? Thanks!

I also wanted Hemianthus Callitrichoides and since I was starting dry start method I broke down and bought 2 pots from aquariumplants.com.  I wanted good plants to start the tanks carpet.

They came over night shipping and cost $50 with shipping.  Plants were very healthy and stilling doing well.

This is day 7 of dry start method

this is day 32

Hard to tell but it's trippled in size.

If you can't find them locally, then online is your best bet but it's a lot more expensive.  I don't plan on using online now as other plants I want I can find locally.

Wow it's beautiful asmackay! Those tiny plants look so fresh and crispy hehe! It seems to be growing quite fast! I will see online if I can find something. 50$ for shipping is expensive though. Thank you for the reply and pictures, I am even more excited now and want to go and find some, yesterday!

Here is an example of a tank I really like taken from the following website: http://www.aquascapingworld.com/forum/aquascape-month/2244-aquascape-month-august-2009-wakrubau.html The tank is called Wakrubau by Kim Pulkki

I can second what Bees says: La Niche is the best store for plants in the Ottawa area. Others are more a miss than hit. The best source are probably the people here. Many not commonly available plants are in the tanks of quite a few hobbyist in the club. The classifieds are a good way, you can look out for ads or post your own. Another way are club auction; HC and mosses have been brought quite regularly to the past auctions. And as soon as you know the people you can start to bug them directly! :P I don't have vast amounts to share, but if you are desperately looking for HC and different mosses then message me and I will set you up with a starter kit.

I think the challenge will be switching to submerged growth but I have CO2 system setup and ready.  I'm not introducing fish until I have figured out the CO2 level and dry ferts.
