I already found a bug in it (that sadly was in the beta too, and I had mentioned it in their support forums).  I'm sure it's an easy fix.

The program is pretty cool, nice to see the "production" release come out.

nissannx

played with it tonight. pretty cool. i dont like that there is no scrool function. i cant see everything on my netbook and there is no way to scroll up or down it just cuts off what i cant see

lost_at_sea

yeah it's definitely missing a lot but the base functionality is there. its very very rough and probably not production ready, apparently their support is great but they are VERY lacking in terms of giving direction on how to load things.

i would have loved to see this go open source and see what other things people could come up with.

How have you guys hooked up your RKL to myReef?

I got an RKL for Christmas, but the splitter that came with the unit won't plug into the PC4 - the shaft is too short and the body of the splitter hits the mounting bracket.

So for now, I have to disconnect the iTemp probe to use myReef.

So for now, I have to disconnect the iTemp probe to use myReef.

Plug the splitter in the SID unit.  Then plug the iTemp in the splitter, and a regular bus cable between the splitter and the PC4.

Rybren

Hmm.

My splitter has two female ends and one male end.  The SID looks like a USB memory stick with a bus cable coming out of the other end.

I would have thought that the male end of the splitter would plug into the PC4, and the iTemp and SID would plug into the female ends of it.  But..  The shaft on the male end of the splitter is too short to plug into the PC4 (I'm sure there's a joke in there somewhere)

I did buy a 6 conductor coupler to try and hook everything together, but nothing seems to work when I use it.

I'm not happy, but it looks like I'll have to buy the DA splitter - it's a short bus cable that plugs into a box that has two female bus connections.  >:(

Go to the DA forum - this issue was discussed in a recent post.

hahah sorry I didn't see this earlier... i played with this for a week and went through exactly what you were.

To be honest I was pissed to, but rest assured it can be setup with 2-3$ worth of couplers from home hardware.  I can't recall from memory how I did this but if you want I can go home tonight and map it out for you.

All in All... it was 'kinda neat' but there's not much you can do on the MyReef besides log stuff... it's got Tons of potential but i don't use it anymore.

let me know if you'd like help setting it up though.

Really?  I much prefer using myReef to program the units than use the dinky little buttons on the head unit.  You see everything on one screen as opposed to have to work your way through a bunch of menus.

Thanks for the advice and offers of help.

What I've found is that most of the splitters available locally are cross-over types to be used with phones.  The RKL requires a straight through, which are tough to find.  I found a few online from the States, but they either don't ship to Canada or they want $20+ for shipping.

Yesterday I managed to find a computer place on Bank St that get one for me.

I'll keep you posted once it comes in.

Great that you found it... monoprice has tons of 6p6c connectors.

I picked up the new splitter and coupler.  It Works!

It's really too bad that DA doesn't ship the product with everything that you need.

Here's a question on graphing.  My understanding is that the RKL stores 6hrs of data.  When you first hook up myReef, can you build a chart to pull this data?  When I was playing with the system last night, I could only show the current state and even then, I found it tough to get back to the current time once I scrolled away from it.

Thx

Is anyone else having a problem with rapid fluctuations in the temp and PH (or whatever probes you have hooked up) when plugged into your computer?

I have an RK2 and they sell a ground loop isolator to solve this problem. I am just wondering if certain computers send noise/feedback (whatever you want to call it) and other computers don't. I just don't get why some people have this problem and others don't.

I already had to buy the splitter and a serial to USB converter. Now I have to buy and wait for a third device to get this thing working.

I don't think my reef works this way. At least with RK2 it doesn't. It only send the information to the computer. It can't send the info back to the Reef keeper. Have you got it to do this? If so I might want to upgrade. I am already thinking about an upgrade to Lite, this might put me over the edge.

HomerJ

I am positive it does that as it is the only way I have used my RKE for the past few months.

You can do everything from myReef that you can do from the head unit.

How many modules do you have?  RKL supports only 4, but will otherwise work just fine with myReef.

I just have the old RK2 (no modules) and I know for a fact that it only goes one way. I guess I should upgrade.
