I am wondering where people get ammonia from that is safe for fishless cycling?  Most stores don't seem to carry it anymore and the ones that do seem to have the lemon scented version.

Pretty sure I got mine at Home Hardware.

I see they have the store brand now and not the one I bought (Old Country).

If it says it's made by CP Industries for Home Hardware, it's likely the same product.

If you're in Barrhaven or going to the garage sale, I can give you some as I have more than I'll ever need.

I also bought at Home Hardware. Old Country . Have had no problems with it.  " Pure Ammonia " . Haven't bought any recently . I would check for stock at the smaller stores maybe they don't have as much stock turnover.   If its their brand speak to store manager to check contents.

Home Hardware now sells an Ammonia All Purpose Cleaner under the 'Home' brand, they don't list the ingredient and it has a lot of bubbles when shaken so I suspect there are surfactants.

Black_Rose, thank you for the offer however I am trying to cycle a 400 gallon system so I suspect I will be going through a fair amount of ammonia.

I have read on other forums that Ammonia will now be turned away at the border, and I can't find a Canadian distributor for Dr. Tims...

I have an almost full 2 litre bottle you can have as I'm getting out of the hobby. I'm in Kanata. Let me know.

Thats terrific of you Mike L.   / new  regulations in Canada are making it difficult  to obtain some of what were stables in the  fish keeping hobby for many years.  Yes some other products are available. However usually not as affective . Another topic and thanks for helping. Calico3

I use the home hardware brand. The one with their branding on it.

When I shook it, it had no bubbles. You can also goto their website, and look up the whims info. It clearly marks what's in it.

I've had no problems

Good to know, Mike L generously gave me a bottle, so I am good for now.
