Well, here it is.  Very much immature at this point but I believe I have the beginning of an exciting tank in a year or so.  Still have to find a good deal on a couple of very colorful reef safe fish.  So far I have a couple of Percs, a Red Brittle Star, Yellow Tang and a Spotted Hawkfish (that has to removed when I make the switch-too agressive) and the usual clean-up crew, Emerald Crabs, Hermits and snails.  Had a Lawnmower Blennie until yesterday when I discovered it in the intake of an unprotected 802 powerhead - a careless mistake!

Here is a link to some photos.  Click on a photo to enlarge.

Happy New Year to everyone...Nelson

Nice setup Nelson.

So.. the big question.  Did the dreaded red algae appear on the 10th?

No it did not...BUT...I noticed traces of it yesterday :(   My turkey baster has been my weapon of choice so far.

Very nice set up Nelson.  Do you have metal halide?
I like your christmas tree rock.
When did you get the hawk and are those your original clowns?

Question that I want answered is where did you get all your corals?!??!!? LOL I've had my toadstool for 3 months now and it is nowhere near as big as yours! Not fair.

Hi Julie...lighting is 2x150w 10K HOI MH's with 6 moonlights in a hood from Marinescape.  The two Percs are my original and first purchases.  The Hawk was a big mistake.  Agressive and I disregarded the information about eating shrimp.  Didn't realize how important cleaner shrimp are, so now I've got a big problem in trying to get him out of 130 lbs of LR.

ALL the corals and live rock came from Ray.  There are pieces in the tank that still belong to Ray that I am storing since his disaster. At the risk of tipping my hand to Ray, I can't see them ever leaving.  Soon will be negotiating time :)

Julie

I thought I recognized some of the larger pieces.
20% off corals/fish at marinescape this week.
Yes, I had an impulse buy when I purchased my hawkfish, it unfortunately decided my shrimp would be a snack.
I had to turn my little tank upside down almost to catch him and return him to lfs.
I was at the point of thinking fish trap.

Bought a Naso Tang at 20% off and a 2000L/hr pump/powerhead for 60% off.  One of the fellows at MS gave me some algae that the Naso particularly likes and is easy to grow in a sump.  He didn't know how to spell it but thinks it's "Dyktota".  Can't find anything on the net...ever heard of the stuff?  BTW, don't know what a Christmas Tree Coral is.

Julie

Were you there today also?  I was fortunate enough to get a ms gift certificate for christmas and I splurged a little;  even purchased a battery operated air pump.  The power was off for 3 hours on
Christmas Night and I was a little concerned for the sw tank.
The Christmas tree rock is the kind of round shaped rock with blue things(I think worms of some kind???) growing in it.
Does the algae look like little grapes on a stem?

Son and I were there today.  Christmas Rock is a great namew for it because the works that fan out are many different colors.  The algae isn't the one with the "little grapes"...it's got broad stems similar to a maple leaf and is light brown in color.

How much was the pump and how does it operate?

Julie

It's pennplax silent air b11.
Comes with pump, airline and air stone.
Plugs in wall but also takes 2 D batteries - works when power goes off.

gkilla

awww man I want that Toadstool..lol
