lighting advice

I have an african fern and twisted val in my 20 gallon long.  There is some slime on the plants.  Someone suggested it might be my lighting that is inappropriate - standard fluorescent bulb that came with the hood.  Does anyone have any suggestions?  Inexpensive suggestions are best. :wink:

try geting d\some shop lights from home depot, if you get two bulbs they should be fine.
