I saw a pair of black clowfish at PJ's Pet Centre in the Yorkdale Mall on the weekend - very cool looking!  Has anyone seen them around here?   They kind of looked like the ones on this web site

http://www.aquaticcommunity.com/universal-viewid378.html

except they seemed to be just black and white, no other colours at all.

They were asking 119$ for the pair...not sure if that would be a fair price...

Thanks,
Andrew

Julie

They appear to be damsels, I've seen them called domino damsels.

az

clownfish for sure but not the black percs which i thght are the expensive (has tobe true pair btw) ones. not sure if its a good price!

domino damsels are all black with 3 round white spots!

Similar shape to the damsels, but yes a different pattern from the domino with a little yellow on the tail.
Clownfish are part of the damsel family.

They looked more like that one above, but the only colours were black and white - very formal and tuxedo like :D

we had one at BA's. it was called a sadle back clownfish. it was going for $119, and looked like a large perc. i forgot what the scientific name was though :(

Julie

That's the thing, names aren't always accurate, justifying research.

Seanc

yeah i know, but i think a scientific name would make it easyer, but i forgot what it is.

Like this guy, Clarki clown, Amphiphiron clarkii?

Yup - that looks like them.  If Sean was right about the 119$ each at BA, the 119$ for the pair I saw was a good deal - damn!

Although, I do have to admit, I like the Nemo colours better ::)

Thanks,
Andrew

murgus

Ah okay - the black Clarki clown appears to be the ones I saw, not the saddle back clown.

Thanks for clearing that up.

If I remember correctly last October-November there were Black Ocellaris clowns for sale in AC, but I dont remember the price - definetly much higher than normal ones...
The question is:  $119 per pair, or per adult breeding pair?

That is a good question and, sadly, one I did not think to ask...

I love the bright orange glow of my little ocelleris. When I get home from work and look in the tank to see what my corals are up to my little clown comes bobbing along to swim in front of my face and then sticks his face out of the tank looking for me to hand-feed him a treat.

Those black ones look quite unique but I really like the little nemos  :D

Julie

I remember them at AC at approx 40 a piece I believe.

I prefer my gold striped maroon clown pair.  Paid $60 in Toronto from a private Breeder.  Best and healthiest fish I have ever purchased!
