I guess I am looking for a bit of advice ... again.   ;)
I have an 11.7gallon glass cylinder I am making into a freshwater planted barb habitat and have been searching for the optimum canister or hang on filter. I guess at least 125gph would be the minimun I would want as a flow rate.
Any suggestions for this hatchling?

The tank is a little small to invest in a canister filter.

An Aquaclear 20 or a Penguin Mini would be more than enough for a power filter.

The Fluval 104 puts out 125GPH.  I think it usually costs about $60-$70 ish (don't quote me) in stores.

Please post a pic of the tank when it's set up, sounds interesting!

I would reccomend the filter I use, eheim 2213 canister.

I bought mine at Petsandponds.com, and you get free shipping on orders over $200, so it's a good deal if you have something else to buy at the same time.

Here is the same filter at Big Al's.

the flow actually works out to something like 116 US GPH, but there is NO bypass at all with this particular filter, making it much more efficient than a HOB filter, such as an aquaclear.

I don't have much experience with fluvals, so I can't help you there.

Thanks for your comments and suggestions,

I will definately post a picture of it when it is complete. I am currently working on building a wooden stand and canopy for it so it may be a while.

Re. "Aqua clear 20 suggestion...." I would love to use one of these HOB filters but it doesn't sit on the edge.  I was hoping there would be a HOB filter designed for round tanks. I do enjoy the Rena Filstar XP2 I have on my 42g and might consider the XP1 but I think the flow rate may be too high for its volume? it is 250gph. Comments??

I will look into the Fluval for sure, it has been a name in the industry I have seen quite a bit.

Re. "Eheim...." Thanks for suggesting another alternative! I have my homework cut out for me now. What size of tank is the eheim on?

Thanks for your quick replies!

I have it on a 29 gallon planted tank.

With that small tank and large water movement, you could easily go with a marine setup.  Instead of filter pads, just use bioballs or even crushed coral...just my 2 cents worth!

Thanks for all the advice !

I have found that the Aquaclear mini fits great and with an extension tube has been doing a fantastic job.

Thanks again
